My name is Whitney Godfrey, and I created this site with my students, their families, and fellow teachers in mind. Please take a few minutes to tour the resources I included. Each resource was thoughtfully made with the intent of building students' love and excitement for science while helping them perform at high levels on North Carolina End of Grade Testing. Take what you find here, download, and use to create your own science instruction that sparks your students' wonder, critical thinking skills, and abilities to solve problems. Happy teaching and learning, everyone!
I teach at River Gate Elementary, in Charlotte, NC.Before River Gate, I taught third grade for ten years at Pineville Elementary, earning National Board Certification in 2001. After the birth of my second son, I was a stay-at-home mom for 5 years. During that time, I stayed involved in the school community by volunteering at Lake Wylie Elementary. Upon returning to work for CMS, I served as River Gate's EC assistant and as a Kindergarten teacher. I have been teaching fifth grade at River Gate for 11 years now, and I love it! Our fifth grade team is the best!
Teaching at River Gate is much more than a job for me. It is my community's school. My younger son, Nick is a Junior at Olympic High School, and my older son, Will, is a sophomore at NC State University. Both boys are former River Gate students. Mr. Godfrey is involved at River Gate, too. It is not unusual to see him at school helping me keep up with the latest technology or judging the science fair. |
